Job Description: HSES Officer

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced HSES Officer to join our team at our fish farm. The successful candidate will support the HSES Manager in implementing and maintaining a robust HSES management system to ensure the health and safety of employees, protect the environment, and safeguard the farm’s assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring HSE compliance with policies, laws, regulations, and best industry safety practices and procedures by regularly inspecting employees and operations, inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe
- Suggests solutions, improvements, and preventive measures for identifies non-compliance issues, promoting a positive HSE culture throughout the organization’ structures and operations.
- Conduct site inspections with the aim of identifying non-compliances and hazards and prepare inspection report with recommendations and collective action plans.
- Ensure all incidents, accidents and near misses are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented effectively.
- Coordinates with all departments on the application of a ‘Permit To Work System’ for all activities requiring work permits.
- Conduct HSE Trainings, TBT and Inductions & ensure that the entire work force has the required PPE as appropriate to their workstations.
- Assist in Preparation of HSE budgets, set performance objectives (SMART) & ensure that they are achieved within a given period.
- Support other departments in preparation of Risk Assessments & Job safety analysis
- Assist in emergency response, conduct drills and provide first aid treatment
- Maintain the management system including Grievance register, legal compliance register, permit tracking system, action plan among others.
- Participate and undertake waste management and monitoring activities including effluent management and waste tracking.
- Support in planning and implementation of community development activities and CSR initiatives and ensure a good community relations culture.
- Support and participate in environmental and social impact assessments (internal brief) for any activities that require such under the national environmental and social impact assessment regulations of 2020.
- Support and coordinate the required annual NEMA Audit, and other external reporting requirements to DWRM, MAAIF and other reporting requirements.
- Execute any other duties as may be assigned by your immediate supervisor.
Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental Science/ Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, any relevant additional post graduate qualification will be an added
- At least 5 years of experience in a regulatory authority, Construction management, extractives/natural resources, manufacturing
- NEBOSH certified and extensive knowledge of ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 management system implementation. preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of health, safety & Environmental laws and guidelines both national and regional
- Meticulous attention to detail to distinguish safety
- Ability to generate regular, detailed and analytical reports and assist the development of safety procedures
- Strong understanding of data analysis and risk
- Excellent communication and interpersonal
